Weekend Hair

I've finally done and replicated twice, a real bun that I'm actually proud of!  This is a pretty big deal to me as a thick and dense haired natural.

As a new natural, I couldn't wait until I had a few inches of hair.  I used to think that once my hair was long enough, I would be bunning my head forever more.  However, after I gained a bit of length, my buns would always look horrid.  My hair was too thick to easily gather into a neat bunnytail, and I would be forced to use gobs of gel to slick my hair down.   Afterwards, the hair band I would use to hold my hair into a puff, would be so tight that I would get headaches.  My hairline would also feel as if it was screaming in agony.  On the chance that I would decide to forgo the gel, I would be left with a puffy and frizzy bun.  Eventually, I would always give up in disgust, only to return later to retry the style.

This weekend, I've finally gotten it right.  Please note that I've had to let my hair grow out significantly, in order, to be able to gather my hair into a non-painful, gel-less, loose bunnytail.

H20 and Almond Oil

The Technique

First, I misted my hair with almond oil and water.  I applied a generous amount of Organics by Africa's Best Carrot Oil Cream to my hair, especially, concentrating on the base of my hair, close to my edges, as well as on my ends.  Afterwards, I gathered my hair into an off-centered bunny tail and secured with a hair band.
The ends of my hair where parted into four sections that were each wrapped around the base of the entire bun.  These sections were arbitrarily pinned- I wanted the bun to be as puffy and big as possible.
Lastly, to dress up the bun a bit, I tied a scarf around the base of my hair, and twisted the ends of the scarf into a cute rosette.

  2. Thank you so much! They're coming soon. :)
The gel totally works. My edges don't like to stay slicked down, but this gel is pretty good because it's thick and gelatin-like.
