When I started GTG, I wanted to add to the chorus of voices that touted the beauty and dope-osity of natural hair. Shamefully, some of our environments still negatively reinforce ideas about our textures, with everything from passive aggressive digs to overtly hostile commentary. I wanted GTG to be a cozy enclave where naturals could congregate and exchange information.
In that regard, I've decided to start including reviews, in order to broaden our awareness of what products may or may not work for us. A dear friend,(Hey Quiana!), once remarked that naturals don't live by rules, and I find that to be fairly true.
I'm about having an open mind with hair products, and this extends to DIY recipes and pre-packaged goodies.
So, I'm really excited, and I'm looking forward to sharing more fun and hopefully, accessible products with you guys in the future.
The Review
If we're keeping up with each other on Instagram or Twitter (@Gerimua), you might have caught a sneak preview of Coco Curls' Curly Styling Aid.

I'd been fairly curious about testing out it's performance on highly textured, dry, and always thirsty hair like mine.
Aloe Vera Juice, Shea Butter, Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate, Jojoba Oil, Coconut Oil, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Honey, Lactobacillus Ferment, Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil (and) Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract, Dehydroxanthan Gum, Fragrance Oils.
$15 for 8oz jar

Yellowish creamy formula with a yummy scent. Literally, yummy- like butterscotch candy!
I've also been using it as a skin moisturizer, too.
I should've heeded the directions to apply the product to dampened hair for the best possible results. But, I didn't, and instead, coated my dry hair with it. I figured that aloe vera, as the first ingredient, would have infused enough moisture to my hair, and that the shea butter would lock it in.
My hair had been in a twist out from the loose twists I recently installed, so I had fairly defined sections of stretched hair, that made my braid out process a thousand times easier. I applied a small dollop of the creamy moisturizer to portions of hair and I curled my ends with my trusty cold rods.
The braids were removed the next day, and I was left with extremely light, fluffy, huge hair.
My hair had never been this big, and yet still"weightless" before. So, the cream does holds up to it's claim, and doesn't weigh down hair or leave behind any residue. My definition/hold only lasted for a day, and my hair felt a bit crunchy a few hours after unraveling the braids; but I suspect that it was due to my brazen rebelliousness.
Lol.
The next time I reach for this product, I will play by the rules, and see what my results yield.

The Verdict
The price is a bit out of my budget, as I like to keep the costs of my daily use products under $10. Nevertheless, I was generally satisfied with my results, and I would gladly recommend this cream, as long as your purse strings aren't as tight as mine.
Luckily, I will be hosting a giveaway in the future, and Coco Curls will be included as one of the prizes.
Stay tuned!
