Fitness and Natural Hair

Hi Friends!

In an earlier post, I mentioned that I had started seriously working out again.  It's quite true.
On this side of 30, I've grudgingly come to accept that my face likes to secrete excessive amounts of oil unlike before, and that if I'd like to maintain a certain physique, a healthy diet and some sort of daily physical activity, must be a non-negotiable.

With the latter, I actually resisted the idea and would constantly sabotage any progress I gained from the gym with various confectionery indulgences- a candy bar here... a cupcake or three there...

I really struggle with my sweet tooth, and curbing the urge to nibble is a constant work in progress.
So, lately, I've been setting tiny achievable goals for myself.
This week, my tangible goals are:

To workout for at least 3 days

To add two fistfuls of steamed fresh kale to each of my dinners

To increase my water intake by one extra 17 oz bottle a day

To limit the sweets to one day per week

I plan to round out the week by rewarding my hair with a nourishing hot oil treatment and a soothing deep condition.

On a quick touch base, in case you're wondering how I've been wearing my hair lately, it's been tucked away under my trusty boo, Laurenremember her?

On my workout days, the wig comes off and my braided twists are wrapped up in my turban.

After my workout, I cowash, and at the end of the week, I detangle and start all over.  I'm planning to keep up this routine, for as long as the cold weather lasts.
In case you missed it, here's a quick video on my workout regimen.

Hope you like!

How are you protecting your hair this winter season?

  1. Love it! High five for being fab and fit! I think most of us get messed up with the fitness stuff because we think we have to look like fitness models or the fitness competitors. I get so much inspiration from people who just decide to make fitness a part of their lifestyle. You go girl!

    1. Thank you! Yeah, you look at them (the end products) are you're like O_o, when the truth is that it's a two steps forward, one step back process. In the grand scheme, as long as you're still moving forward, it's worth it.

    2. 1 word: WIGS. All day, everyday...no shame. I honestly don't have time for my hair. the less the manipulation, the closer I am to my goal---> your hair. Don't ever take your hair for granted girl. It has the right amount of body and texture :)

  3. Hey Coco!

    Trust me, I don't. Lol.
You have the right attitude btw,

Leave your hair alone, and allow it to grow.

  4. One of the great things about wigs and hair extensions is that you can have curly hair, straight hair, long hair, short hair or whatever you fancy, without ever having to dye, perm or straighten. For more info look at this now.
